Regional Museum Of Natural History- Ticket Price, Timings, History, Things to do, and much more!

There were many college events that we took part in but this event was extra special as this study event came in the form of a tour to the most visited and interesting place in Bhubaneswar, The Regional Museum Of Natural History. Though we purposefully went there to look upon the anatomical marvelous features of Baleen Whale in the form of skeletal we eventually ended up touring the whole museum.

From start to end, we never got tired as we didn’t may be felt our feet. Our eyes were busy wandering and we felt like it was only our eyes that were walking and our legs were at rest. We got to discover so many things about so many creatures from invertebrates to vertebrates and our professors guided us side by side to remind us of whatever we were taught in the classroom.

The whole experience if I have to sum up was Enthralling, Exciting and Educational!

In a remarkable effort to raise awareness of the state’s and the world’s natural heritage, the museum houses tremendous richness under one roof. History - Regional Museum Of Natural History, Bhubaneswar

The Regional Museum of Natural History’s first stone was set in 1994, and ten years later it welcomed visitors. The museum, which is run by the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Government of India, features a remarkable collection of plants, insects, and animal skeletons from extinct and unusual species, as well as images and related samples from all over the world and geological data on Bhubaneswar.

It has the distinction of being the only museum in the nation to house displays, a rare elephant bird egg, and numerous other exceptional and stunning objects. Other exhibits that pique the curiosity of those with a preference for the living sciences include the different types of bones of tiny mammals and reptiles.

Additionally, it displays the diversity of the state’s several areas, including Chilika, Bhitarkanika, and Simlipal. The Baobab (Adansonia digitata), thought to be the world’s longest-living flowering plant with a lifespan of 5,100 years, is another fascinating exhibit you may see in the museum. The goal of establishing this museum was to educate the local student population and the broader public about the value of flora and fauna, hence raising awareness about the need to conserve natural resources.

The Regional Museum of Natural History successfully generated and used green energy through its rooftop solar power system in May 2017, making it one of the first museums in the nation to use natural energy resources.

Architecture - Regional Museum Of Natural History, Bhubaneswar

The Regional Museum of Natural History in Bhubaneswar was built quite aesthetically, and its thoughtfully planned landscape beautifully fosters an environment for students and tourists to learn about the natural ecosystem and the importance of its conservation. To shed light on the flora and fauna of many parts of the state and beyond, as well as their fascinating interrelationships, the museum has beautifully displayed a number of exhibits in a recreated habitat.

The emphasis in each of the museum’s exhibits is on protecting nature and its abundant resources while displaying the ecological balance between plants and animals. The Braille system has been implemented by the museum’s administration to help visually impaired pupils learn about the many exhibits on display.

The museum provides possibilities for schools to invite children with the goal of promoting environmental awareness to the museum. The facility also features a children’s gallery where kids may view and engage with a variety of interactive exhibits. There is also an auditorium and numerous interaction centers on the property, where various activities associated with nature and natural history are occasionally organized.

The museum has constructed theme-based galleries as well as experiential resource centers – “Activity Room” and “Discovery Room” – on the premises as part of its unwavering dedication to environmental education. In addition, it has created a number of educational and outreach initiatives with the goal of showcasing the rich cultural and natural past of the nation.

It also runs a mobile display known as the “Exhibition on Wheels” across the city for people who, for whatever reason, are unable to attend the museum and to raise awareness about resource conservation.

The whale skeletons on display at the Regional Museum of Natural History must be its greatest draw. One is from a Baleen Whale, and the other is from a Toothed Whale. These two types of whales differ in that the second has teeth, as the name implies, but the first has baleen plates or baleen systems that allow them to filter out any food from the water they ingest. In one of the galleries, in addition to a variety of stuffed reptiles and other animals in jars, there is a preserved body of a pangolin.
